The future? Tailor-made: the importance of personalised technology consulting

According to the 2024 Gartner Market Guide, companies that adopt customised technological transformation solutions in their processes and production and/or service cycles significantly increase their operational efficiency. What’s more, these improvements and efficiencies are accompanied by better product and/or service delivery to their customers, with gains of up to 35–40%, respectively.

Similarly, IDC Market Research often points to significant improvements in the return on investment applied to technological transformation projects in companies when they opt to customise the solutions implemented, with profitability up to 1.7 times higher.

These are just examples of multiple indicators that point in the same direction. Adopting standardised solutions in business environments, which are very specific and unique in nature, constitutes a significant risk that is often underestimated.

Equilibrating standard technology and personalised solutions is key

Technological transformation carried out with and for people in a business context requires a delicate balance between existing standardised solutions and their suitability for the actual vision and objectives to be achieved.

The strategic, tactical and operational alignment is essential for transformation projects of this nature.

In fact, every company is unique. Technological transformation should serve the purposes of the operations to which it relates, and not the other way around. It is from the dialectic, from the symbiosis established in such balance, that greater focus is obtained on what can bring effective value – and hence, a greater return on the investment made.

On the other hand, standardisation can lead to possible “unnecessary elements”. That is, possible waste in use and/or solutions adopted, improperly designed for the “effective” reality of such operations. In other words, a less intelligent transformation than desired.

Furthermore, the innovation that results from such transformative cycles will be more sustainable and long-lasting. Rather than sudden and divisive change, tailored consulting services are more likely to be inclusive of all stakeholders and, as such, more effective in achieving the desired innovation.

Personalising consulting is not spending more, but spending smarter

And contrary to what one might think, customising consulting services does not necessarily imply increased expenditure. If we consider the potential resulting from improved ROI and the effectiveness of the transformative action, we would quickly conclude that it is a matter of spending better and smarter, not spending more.

However, this comes with a particularly complex challenge. Personalised technological transformation consulting solutions are only possible with professionals who have high technical competence and extensive experience. The alternative is simply an expensive adventure.
