IZERTIS participates in the FoodCarbon project
The agri-food industry is one of the main contributors to greenhouse gas emissions worldwide. Therefore, any action taken in this sector has an exponential potential to decarbonise production processes.
Moreover, the agri-food sector — and particularly the meat industry — represents one of the most significant areas of economic activity in our region. In this context, the FoodCarbon project, “Research into emerging technologies and renewable energy sources for the decarbonisation of industrial processes in the meat industry”, aims to investigate emerging technologies to quantify and tokenise the carbon emissions of a selected process within the meat sector.
Through these studies, the potential of renewable energies to offset the carbon tokens emitted during a production process will be analysed, allowing the true impact of these solutions on the decarbonisation of industrial processes to be validated. In addition, these carbon tokens can be objectively managed, reducing the risk of “greenwashing” among companies in the sector.
This project has been co-funded by the Government of the Principality of Asturias through the 2024 R&D project call of SEKUENS, and by the European Union through the ERDF (file no. IDE/2024/000483).
