ISBE: building digital trust for individuals and businesses

ISBE: building digital trust for individuals and businesses

In the digital world, it is no longer enough to know who is who. To build real trust on the Internet, both individuals and companies need to verifiably accredit concrete attributes: an academic degree, a professional licence, a sustainability certification, or even the legal representation of a company.

The European Union is making progress in this area with Decentralised Digital Identity (SSI), Digital Wallets and Verifiable Credentials, which will allow citizens and businesses to accredit these attributes in a secure, interoperable and legally valid way. In Spain, the Infrastructure for Blockchain Services in Spain (ISBE) is emerging as the space where these credentials can be issued, validated and used in secure, interoperable environments aligned with European regulations.

Verifiable credentials

The European framework distinguishes several types of credentials, each with different implications and applications:

  • Person Identification Data (PID): legally recognised civil identity issued by a public authority.
  • Qualified Electronic Attestation of Attributes (QEAA): qualified attributes, issued by accredited trusted service providers, with strong legal backing.
  • Public EAA (Electronic Attestation of Attributes): attributes issued by official sources (e.g. cadastre, traffic, official registers), whose legal value is comparable to a paper document.
  • EAA (Electronic Attestation of Attributes): issued by trusted providers or authorised entities, with a level of assurance associated with the reputation of the issuer.

These credentials not only provide legal validity, but also generate enormous economic potential. According to European Commission estimates, the adoption of verifiable attributes could lead to billions of euros in annual savings by 2027.

ISBE is the environment that allows all of them to coexist in practice, aligned with EBSI and the European Digital Wallet initiatives (EUDI and Enterprise Business Wallet).

ISBE as a trusted platform

ISBE will act as the enabling infrastructure so that Verifiable Credentials of different types can coexist and be used in the Spanish and European digital economy.

  • For citizens: accredit a university degree or demonstrate a professional qualification without paperwork or waiting.
  • For businesses: with the arrival of the European Business Wallet, they will be able to immediately validate their tax status, their certifications or who has power of attorney.
  • For society: by reducing paperwork, duplication and fraud, verifiable credentials simplify processes and increase transparency in digital relationships.

ISBE offers a secure, interoperable and regulated space

What makes ISBE different is that it offers a secure, interoperable and regulated space, where the issuance and verification of these credentials will be fully valid and trusted.

Opportunities for different sectors

The use of verifiable credentials opens up a huge range of possibilities. These are concrete examples of how ISBE will enable businesses and administrations to turn digitalisation into real trust:

  • Public administration: faster procedures and less bureaucracy, with citizens presenting digital credentials instead of paper documents.
  • Finance and insurance: automatic verification of powers of attorney, solvency or regulatory compliance.
  • Agriculture and sustainability: verifiable certification of origin, designation of origin or carbon footprint.
  • Health and education: medical records accessible with patient consent, or academic degrees recognised throughout Europe.

Izertis, the bridge between ISBE and your business

Seizing this opportunity requires a partner who understands the technology as well as the regulation and business processes. At Izertis we put all the pieces together:

  • We are experts in Decentralised Digital Identity and Verifiable Credentials.
  • Identfy is our own solution for managing Verifiable Credentials and Digital Wallets.
  • We participate in key European projects: EBSI-Vector, DC4EU, WE BUILD, among others, where we have worked on credentials applied to identity, education, health and social security.
  • Insider knowledge of ISBE: being part of its definition and deployment (we are responsible for the ISBE Digital Identity Group), we know how Verifiable Credentials will be implemented in the national infrastructure.

Our approach is clear: we act as a bridge between ISBE and the real needs of each client. We help identify which credentials bring the most value, design the solution, deploy it on top of ISBE and ensure it is interoperable with the European ecosystem.

Towards an internet of trust

The digital trust of the future will be based not just on who you are, but on what you can verifiably demonstrateISBE is the infrastructure that will make this new scenario possible in Spain and Europe, in connection with initiatives such as the European Business Wallet, the EUDI Wallet and regulations such as eIDAS2.

At Izertis, as a strategic partner, we are ready to guide companies and administrations through this transition. With our experience, technology and strategic vision, we help every organisation harness the potential of Verifiable Credentials to reduce costs, gain efficiency and build trust in their digital processes.
