EBSI VECTOR
self-sovereign digital identity for education

EBSI-VECTOR aims to bring the self-sovereign digital identity paradigm into the fields of education and social security at a European level. The initiative seeks to transform the digital interaction of students and workers by simplifying complex institutional verification processes through a decentralised approach. To achieve this, the project consolidates and expands the current capabilities of the European Blockchain Services Infrastructure (EBSI) in the areas of verifiable credentials and trusted registries, adding key new functionalities such as digital identity for legal entities and revocation capabilities. Furthermore, the creation of national support units is encouraged in order to drive large-scale adoption, stimulate the digital wallet market, and align strategically with European platforms.

Challenges
Ensuring the security and interoperability of digital credentials in cross-border education and social security processes through a decentralised, resilient model.
Consolidating and scaling the capabilities of the EBSI network, integrating them with transnational frameworks to meet the needs of institutions, businesses, and citizens.
Implementing real-world pilots and deployments in the education sector (academic records and learning achievements across approximately 30 universities) and in social security (European Health Insurance Card and S1 Document).
Solution
Development of an interoperable ecosystem based on blockchain technology, providing the building blocks and tools for the exchange of verifiable credentials between citizens and organisations.
Includes the development and integration of digital wallets (Holder Wallets for citizens and Enterprise Wallets for organisations) compliant with the European EBSI network, incorporating trusted registries, immediate revocation capabilities, and privacy assurance.
