DC4EU
digital credentials for Europe

The DC4EU (Digital Credentials for Europe) project aims to integrate the European eIDAS trust framework and the future European Digital Identity Wallet (EUDIW) into the Education and Social Security sectors. Its main objective is to facilitate and secure the cross-border issuance of Electronic Attestations of Attributes (EAAs), such as academic credentials, professional qualifications, the Portable Document A1 (PDA1), and the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). With a duration of 28 months, the project lays down the technical foundations, processes, and governance models needed to standardise citizen digital identity at a pan-European level, positively impacting labour and academic mobility within Member States.

Challenges
Establish the technical measures, processes, and procedures required to create sector-specific trust frameworks in Education and Social Security at European level.
Design and implement Large-Scale Pilots (LSPs) for the cross-border issuance and verification of educational credentials and social security documents.
Promote intersectoral interoperability and hybridisation of the European Digital Identity Wallet (EUDIW), providing practical recommendations for issuing bodies, verifiers, Member States, and citizens.
Solution
Deployment of pilots and technological integration solutions for four specific use cases: issuance of educational credentials, professional qualifications, Portable Document A1 (PDA1), ANDEuropean Health Insurance Card (EHIC).
The solution is based on developing ecosystems aligned with the eIDAS framework, enabling a standardised base identity and supporting public administrations in creating a new digital paradigm for European citizens.
