NATCONSUMERS
drives energy savings through personalised and emotional feedback

The key objective of the H2020 NATCONSUMERS project was to develop an advanced and comprehensive user-centred framework for the implementation of efficient energy feedback programmes in the domestic sector. The approach focused on establishing the complete characteristics of EU energy consumers and then designing tailored, specific actions based on the use of natural language and emotional content, adapted to each consumer pattern. In this context, providing feedback to consumers has shown promising results, achieving savings in the range of 5% to 20%.

The key objective of the H2020 NATCONSUMERS project was to develop an advanced and comprehensive user-centred framework

Challenges
To assess the context and situation of domestic energy consumption in the EU
To characterise the profile of residential users in terms of energy consumption
To classify EU energy consumers
Crear un marco de concienciación de los usuarios para la promoción de prácticas energéticas sostenibles
Solution
Firstly, three segmentation models were developed for energy consumers: the first is based on their energy consumption patterns over time, the second on sociodemographic variables, and the third on their attitudes and values (obtained through surveys). Using this information, a virtual energy advisor was developed that provides a comprehensive characterisation of each individual's energy consumption and designs specific, personalised actions tailored to each detected consumption pattern. These actions are aimed at raising user awareness and employ natural language and emotional content to maximise engagement.
