Web3

Web3, towards a decentralized internet thanks to Blockchain

Based on 'peer-to-peer' relationships, it promotes users to regain control over their digital identity and assets. At Izertis, we firmly believe that the current trend of the Internet, known as Web 2.0, is heading towards a decentralized Web3 thanks to blockchain technology. Although we are still in an early stage of this concept, the first steps are being taken and a faster and more extensive implementation of Web3 is expected.

It is important to remember that Web 1.0, which occurred before the .com boom between 1991 and 2004, was mainly a static content platform where users only consumed information. Although interaction was non-existent, protocols were open, decentralized, and regulated by the community, which generated trust and a message of respect for data privacy.

Web 2.0, a participatory system, but at the same time centralized and dependent on large companies

In Web 2.0, interaction and collaboration are fundamental, which has led to the emergence of a new generation of websites that allow people to share information and generate content. This has led to the so-called "Social Web", a participatory internet where social networks are the central axis. However, this participation does not necessarily translate into proper control and monetization of the data and content generated by users. Large companies have taken advantage of this situation to create centralized silo services and monopolize the monetization of these contents.

Web 3.0 seeks to solve this problem by offering a smarter, more open and user-centered Internet, where people have more control and ability to monetize their data and content. In this sense, blockchain technology would be a key tool to achieve greater decentralization and autonomy for users.

The key to transitioning to Web3 is decentralization

Web3 promotes user participation while 'giving back' control over their digital identity and assets

Web3, also known as decentralized web, is an evolution of the internet that promises greater autonomy and control for users by merging the decentralization of Web 1.0, the participatory vision of Web 2.0 and advanced technologies in Artificial Intelligence and Big Data. This combination of factors allows for a more personalized and secure experience for users, as privacy and autonomy are respected for all.

The key to transitioning to Web3 is decentralization, as it allows users to have control of their digital assets and monetize them. Currently, many users are not yet aware of the importance of hosting and collectively controlling their data through a decentralized system, but as these concepts are understood, a greater increase in the adoption of Web3 is expected.

Currently, when we interact on the internet, we transmit copies of our data to service providers' servers, meaning that we lose control over our data. Decentralization seeks to solve this problem by allowing users to have control of their data and digital assets.

Blockchain, the driving technology of decentralization that is already making Web3 a reality

The key technology to achieve internet decentralization and return digital sovereignty to the user is blockchain.

Blockchain is a decentralized technology built on peer-to-peer connections, which allows for transactions without intermediaries and greater control of data by users. This concept of "peer-to-peer connections" is essential for Web3 as it allows users to monetize their digital assets and data.

Although Blockchain is primarily known for its association with cryptocurrencies, it is also essential for driving Decentralized Applications (dApps) and NFTs. The concept of self-managed digital identity linked to digital wallet is essential in this context. Although there is still mistrust towards these technologies, they are fundamental for Web3 as they open new possibilities for use and interaction for users.

Main advantages of Web3 for its users

Privacy and control are fundamental in Web3, as the user is the owner and manager of their data. This means that the user decides with whom to share their credentials and digital assets, and also monetizes their data or assets. In addition, there are no moderators or censors of users and content in Web3.

New technologies, such as Big Data and AI, also contribute to better content classification and more intelligent searches. Connection with more devices is also essential, as it allows for a secure connection through computers, laptops, tablets, mobile phones or smartwatches, among others.

At Izertis, we are experts in creating digital products that use advanced technologies, such as blockchain, for digital identity management with autonomy, security and privacy. We have participated in self-managed digital identity and blockchain projects in the health sector, such as Inside ID and POLDER. If your company or organization is considering adopting decentralized data management systems, Izertis can provide our experience and assistance.
